Rotarians Donate Dictionaries to Area 3rd Graders!
In November and December 2008, members of the Wood River Rotary Club journeyed to the school districts represented in the City of Wood River (Wood River - Hartford Elementary and Roxana Unit #1) and presented dictionaries to the third grade classes at Lewis & Clark Elementary, Hartford Elementary, Central Elementary and South Roxana Elementary. The Wood River Rotary Club is joining Rotary International and Rotary District 6460's effort on increasing literacy - both at home and around the world.

The students and their teachers and principals were very gracious hosts to our Rotarians. Thanks to the Principals: Ron Simpson (Hartford), Patrick Shelton (Lewis & Clark), Jim Miller (Central), and Keri Mueller (South Roxana), and to the District Superintendents: Mark Cappel (Wood River - Hartford Dist. #15) and Debbie Kreutztrager (Roxana Unit #1). Mark and Debbie are also members of Wood River Rotary Club.

Below are some update pictures, from November & December 2008 (more pictures to come, later). The first picture is from Wed., Nov. 26, 2008:

On the same day, Wood River Rotarians delivered Dictionaries to the 3rd Graders at Lewis & Clark Elementary School in Wood River. In December, we will deliver the next sets of dictionaries to 3rd graders in the Roxana District. We hope we can post some pictures soon ....

Rotary Roadside Clean-Up

Every quarter, a team of Wood River Rotarians pick-up trash along a 1-mile stretch of Madison Ave. (Rte. 143) in Wood River. This service is in conjunction with the City of Wood River efforts to beautify Wood River.

Rotary Shelter - Belk Park

The Wood River Rotary Club built and still maintains the Rotary Shelter on the south side of Belk Park. The shelter includes picnic tables, BBQ facilities, and is located in a shady area adjacent to the pond.
